چکیده
I N RENAL transplant recipients, sirolimus has been studied extensively in combination with cyclosporine,l but relatively few published studies have looked at the combination of sirolimus and tacrolimus?-S We performed a pilot trial of tacrolimus, sirolimus, and steroids, without antibody induction and with protocol biopsies, to look at the safety and efficacy of this combination. This report describes the early outcomes in the first 30 patients entered into the trial.

Role of Immunosuppression Minimization Protocols in Renal Transplantation
The subject of transplant immunosuppression has generated significant interest in recent years. Excellent immunosuppression, advances in surgical technique, post-transplantation care, and infection control have resulted in excellent outcomes. There is widespread support for the notion that the fundamental objective in transplant immunology should be the achievement of specific graft toleran...
متن کاملLong-term efficacy and safety of a calcineurin inhibitor-free regimen in live-donor renal transplant recipients.
Calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) nephrotoxicity is a major concern after renal transplantation. To investigate the safety and efficacy of a CNI-free immunosuppressive regimen, 132 live-donor renal transplant recipients were included in a prospective, randomized controlled trial. All patients received induction therapy with basiliximab and steroids. The patients were randomized to a maintenance immun...
متن کاملA multicenter pilot study of early (4-day) steroid cessation in renal transplant recipients under simulect, tacrolimus and sirolimus.
This study presents the first prospective multicenter study assessing sirolimus-based immunosuppression with early (4-day) corticosteroid withdrawal (CSWD) in renal transplantation. Immunosuppression included: anti-IL-2 receptor antibody and tacrolimus/sirolimus. Inclusion criteria included adult primary recipients. Exclusion criteria included: (i) African Americans, (ii) current PRA >50%, (iii...
متن کاملA 12-Month Single Arm Pilot Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Sirolimus in Combination with Tacrolimus in Kidney Transplant Recipients at High Immunologic Risk
The optimal immunosuppressive strategy for renal transplant recipients at high immunologic risk remains a topic of investigation. This prospective single arm pilot study was undertaken to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a combined tacrolimus and sirolimus regimen in recipients at immunological high risk and to compare outcomes with a contemporaneous control group received tacrolimus and myc...
متن کاملEarly cyclosporine a withdrawal in kidney transplant recipients under a sirolimus-based immunosuppressive regimen: pathological study of graft biopsies at 1-year posttransplant.
THE ROLE of anticalcineurin agents, cyclosporine A (CyA) and tacrolimus (TRC), in the development of chronic allograft nephropathy (CAN) and subsequently in long-term graft survival seems to be of major importance owing to their nephrotoxic effect. Unfortunately, no successful alternatives are available to date. Sirolimus has shown a similar efficacy to CyA when used alone with respect to graft...
